Lisa Mazzone from Geneva was elected as the new president of the Swiss Green Party in Renens VD on Saturday. The party made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. Mazzone replaces Balthasar Glättli from Zurich, who is stepping down after four years.
Lisa Mazzone was the only candidate in the race to succeed Balthasar Glättli. The latter announced his resignation as President of the Green Party in November 2023. In doing so, he drew the consequences of the electoral defeat suffered by his party, which lost 3.4 percent of voters in the federal elections last October.
At the meeting on Saturday, Glättli was bid farewell as president and praised for his "what felt like a million ideas a day" and "incredible energy", as the short message service X reported. The Greens wrote that he had held the office of President "with deeply rooted green values in his heart and clear ideas of sustainable politics" - always with respect for other opinions and a desire to debate.
