Long traffic jam in front of the Gotthard on Friday

Even before the weekend, travelers heading south needed patience: In front of the Gotthard tunnel on the A2, vehicles were jammed for 13 kilometers early Friday afternoon.
The time lost on the section between Erstfeld and Göschenen in the canton of Uri was therefore more than two hours, as the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS) announced on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
A column also formed on the Ticino side of the tunnel. By 1.30 p.m., it had grown to eight kilometers in front of the Gotthard south portal heading north, according to TCS. Travelers thus needed 1 hour and 20 minutes longer for the freeway section between Faido and Airolo than under normal traffic conditions.
