Negotiations on adjusting minimum wages in the hospitality industry for 2025 have failed. The trade unions and employee associations are now appealing to the court of arbitration. This is to decide on next year's minimum wages.
The employers' associations are not prepared to increase minimum wages despite a record economic year in 2023. Never before have so many overnight stays been recorded, the Unia and Syna trade unions and the Hotel and Catering Union employee association jointly announced on Monday. The forecasts for 2024 are also good.
Many employees have been struggling with a loss of purchasing power for years, the report continued. Inflation, health insurance premiums and rent increases are a problem throughout Switzerland. According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), real wages in the hospitality industry have been falling since 2017.
