The working population in Switzerland increased last year - by 1.5% to 5.548 million. At 1.8 percent, the increase was higher for women than for men at 1.3 percent. This means that 2.554 million women were in employment compared to 2.994 million men.
The positive net migration (the immigration and emigration of workers) is due to the fact that more foreign workers came to Switzerland than Swiss nationals went abroad to work. This was announced by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Friday.
With the exception of 2003 and 2004, labor market entries exceeded labor market exits between 1995 and 2018. The opposite trend only occurred between 2019 and 2021.
