Following media reports based on secret meeting documents from the beginning of October on the communications of Justice Minister Beat Jans, the responsible National Council committee has filed criminal charges against persons unknown. It condemned the leaking of information to the media "in the strongest terms".
The National Council's Political Institutions Committee (SPK-N) unanimously decided to file criminal charges for violations of the secrecy of proceedings, the parliamentary services announced on Friday. Such leaks of information to the media are extremely damaging to the work of the committee, they said.
At the beginning of October, the media published several excerpts from the minutes of committee meetings and from a letter to Justice Minister Jans. According to the "Sonntagszeitung" report, members of the National Council from all parties criticized Jans in a letter for poor communication on asylum issues. According to the letter, he withholds important information and is too often absent from SPK-N meetings.
Jans then commented on the accusations. He said that he wanted to set different priorities and meet the information requirements. Jans responded to the accusation that he had been absent from meetings too often with scheduling conflicts.
