No alpine solar power plant can be built in the Ybrig area in the canton of Schwyz. The voters of Oberiberg SZ have narrowly rejected the power plant planned by Axpo.

The decision on Alpin Solar Ybrig was made with 51.1% of votes against (261 to 250 votes). The turnout was 78.4 percent.

The plant on Alp Roggenegg would have been around ten hectares in size and would have been connected to the grid via a 1.8-kilometre-long line. Electricity production was expected to be equivalent to the annual consumption of the municipality of Oberiberg, including businesses and the ski resort.

It was argued in favor of the plant that the site has above-average sunlight and could contribute to security of supply in winter thanks to its location at 1600 meters above sea level. The arguments against the plant concerned the landscape, which would be adversely affected.

The municipality would have benefited financially from the solar plant. The project was backed by Axpo and the local electricity company EWS, which also belongs to the Axpo Group through its majority shareholder CKW.
