The miscalculation of voter turnout by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office has been noticed abroad as well. The three experts sent by the OSCE to observe the Swiss elections will address the issue in their report, which is expected to be released in about two months.

ODIHR spokesperson Katya Andrusz said on Thursday in response to a request from the Keystone-SDA news agency that the information they have received in recent days, such as the vote count, will definitely be taken into account in the report and recommendations. However, it is still too early for final conclusions.

Ten days before the election day, three experts from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) traveled to Switzerland. They came from Greece, Spain and Belarus. The mission ended on Thursday.

In two months, we will provide an update on the progress of our project. We are confident that we will have achieved our goals and will be able to share the results with our consumers. Stay tuned for more information.

The focus of the observation was on the financing of parties and campaigns, pilot projects for online voting, and the participation of people with disabilities in the electoral process. For the first time, national rules were in place for the disclosure of campaign budgets and donations for campaigns and political actors.

Approximately two months after the elections, the three experts will deliver a report on the 2023 Swiss federal elections. The OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) sent the three-person team at the invitation of Switzerland.

On Wednesday it was announced that the Federal Statistical Office had initially published incorrect party strengths in the National Council. The voter shares of SVP, Mitte and FDP had to be corrected downwards three days after the election day.

The correction of the election results had no effect on the seat distribution. However, it did have an impact on the ranking of party strengths: Contrary to the previous figures, the FDP remains the third strongest political force.
