Olympic Museum under the sign of fashion and sport

A new special exhibition at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne is dedicated to the theme of fashion and sport. The exhibition, curated together with the Musée des arts décoratifs (MAD) in Paris, opened with a fashion show on Wednesday evening.
Several well-known designers were invited to the opening of the special exhibition entitled "Mode et sport, d'un podium à l'autre", including the French luxury company Lacoste.
Kevin Germanier, who designed the costumes for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Paris, also took part. The Valais native said he was moved to show a piece of the Paris Games in his country.
Around a dozen outfits were presented in the fashion show, including former Vaudois track and field athlete Lea Sprunger as model of the day. The exhibition, intended as a tribute to the designers of the interwar period, focuses in particular on the growing influence of sport on contemporary fashion.
It is on display until April 27 and shows the avant-garde collaboration between haute couture houses and sports brands as well as the role played by numerous sportswomen and sportsmen as ambassadors for renowned brands.
The exhibition highlights in particular the mutual exchange between sport and fashion since the 19th century, said Sophie Lemahieu, curator of the exhibition and curator at the Musée des arts décoratifs in Paris. The show was first shown there from September 2023 to April 2024.
Compared to the original, new outfits from last summer's Olympic Games in Paris will be presented in Lausanne. The staging is also different. "In Paris, we brought sport into a museum dedicated to fashion. In Lausanne, fashion comes to a museum dedicated to sport. The dynamic is different," explained Lemahieu.
