One dead when a freight train derails in Bern

A railroad employee was killed in the derailment of a freight train in Bern early on Thursday morning. This was reported by the Bern cantonal police.
The man was shunting in the Bern-Weyermannshaus freight yard shortly after 4.30 a.m. when a freight wagon derailed for an unknown reason and lost part of its load. The man was then hit by the derailed wagon and fatally injured.
According to the police, the victim is a 22-year-old Swiss national from the canton of Bern. Further investigations are underway, they said.
Rail traffic between Bern and Fribourg was temporarily disrupted early in the morning.
