According to SP co-leader Samira Marti, only a minority of her parliamentary group will support the Greens' attack on the FDP Federal Council seat on Wednesday. A majority consider Gerhard Andrey's candidacy to have no chance, said Marti.
Everyone agrees that the SVP-FDP majority is a problem for social Switzerland, Marti told the media in the Federal Palace shortly before the start of the elections. "However, our support for Andrey could be misused to play games and damage the SP and thus the left."
The majority of the SP parliamentary group is therefore critical of the Greens' candidacy - also because they have no chance. However, there is no question that Andrey is a good candidate.
According to Marti, a minority of the SP parliamentary group will support the candidacy in place of FDP Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis. "Some members of the parliamentary group want to leave no stone unturned," she said.
In general, Marti described the initial situation for the SP as "quite complex". The parliamentary group had therefore also held very intensive discussions over the past few days.
