A third of Swiss companies believe they are well positioned when it comes to AI. In a European comparison, however, Switzerland is only in the middle of the field.
34% of Swiss companies say they are well or very well prepared to exploit the potential of artificial intelligence (AI). This is a significant improvement on the previous year, when only just under a quarter considered themselves well prepared, according to the "AI Readiness Index" published by IT company Cisco on Friday.
In a European comparison, however, Switzerland only occupies a mid-table position. Spain (40%) and the UK (47%) fared much better in the survey. In comparison, more than one in two companies in the USA and China consider themselves well prepared for the topic of AI.
"Especially in the area of IT infrastructure, there is a need to catch up in order to make data centers fit for AI requirements," says Christopher Tighe, Head of Switzerland at Cisco. On the positive side, Switzerland is certainly competitive worldwide when it comes to AI talent.
Increased importance of AI
All companies surveyed in Switzerland stated that the urgency to introduce AI has increased in the past year. Around half of them would already be spending 10 to 30 percent of their IT budget on AI projects.
Despite the high level of investment, the results have often not yet been satisfactory, the report continues. Over 60 percent of those surveyed stated that AI initiatives had not brought any significant progress or results in the automation, optimization and support of processes.
Almost 8,000 IT managers from large companies in 30 markets were surveyed for the study. 300 respondents came from Switzerland.
