The artist Tracey Rose from South Africa did not attend the press tour of the "Shooting Down Babylon" exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bern. Her signature on a petition critical of Israel in 2021 had caused a stir in the run-up to the exhibition. A statement from Rose had been expected.

Instead, the Kunstmuseum Bern issued a written statement to the media on Wednesday. The Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities is quoted as saying that the artist makes it clear "that she obviously represents radical and non-constructive positions". According to the paper, Rose herself believes "in the right of the state of Israel and the state of Palestine to exist".

The Kunstmuseum Bern is focusing on dialog. "We want to explore artistic freedom together," said Kunstmuseum Director Nina Zimmer to the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Tracey Rose addresses racism and sexism in her art. She shows humor and takes a radical stance. "Shooting Down Babylon" can be seen from February 23 to August 11.
