Over 200 liters of rain fell in 24 hours in Mendrisiotto TI

Over 200 liters of rain per square meter have fallen in the Mendrisiotto region of southern Ticino in the last 24 hours. It rained particularly heavily in Coldrerio TI, where 185 millimetres were measured in just six hours, as reported by the federal government on Monday night.
Coldrerio was the leader with 227 liters of rain per square meter in the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the Federal Office of Climatology and Meteorology (MeteoSwiss) on the X platform.
MeteoSwiss had again expected heavy thunderstorms in Ticino on Monday night. There was already heavy rainfall in the region during the night from Saturday to Sunday. In Mendrisiotto, 48 liters fell in just two hours, as MeteoSwiss reported on Sunday morning. However, Monday is expected to be dry throughout Switzerland.
