Over a thousand people gathered on Tuesday evening at the Münsterhof in Zurich to show their solidarity with the victims of the bloody attack in Israel. Jacques Lande, President of the Israelite Cultusgemeinde Zurich, said that words of solidarity were important, but must be followed by action. The Swiss government must brand Hamas as a terrorist organization. Mario Fehr, Zurich's government president, said that believing that one could negotiate with these people was naive and shameful. Brigitte Bos-Portmann, Vice Central President of the Society Switzerland-Israel, said that the attack was still unfathomable and that they were left feeling shocked and angry. Ifat Reshef, the Israeli ambassador to Switzerland, said that Israel had the right to defend itself and that the fight was not against the people of Gaza, but against the terrorists. The Israelite Cultusgemeinde Zurich called for the demonstration, which was supported by a broad alliance of Jewish and other organizations. People carried Swiss and Israeli flags and some had homemade cardboard signs with slogans such as "Free Gaza from Hamas" and "Stop Terrorists".
