The National Council largely followed the Federal Council's proposals for expenditure in the areas of energy and the environment. However, like the Council of States before it, it allocated CHF 1.1 million more for pest control than proposed by the national government.

The large chamber made its decision on Monday by 153 votes to 33 with eight abstentions. The budget item deals with measures against the Japanese beetle and the cherry vinegar fly, for example.

The National Council also increased funding for the Swiss National Park by a good CHF 83,000 and allocated almost CHF 600,000 more for nature parks than the Federal Council's proposal.

However, proposals to increase funding for the revitalization of bodies of water by CHF 13 million and to allocate more money for the promotion of biodiversity and the review of the approval of pesticides were rejected.

The demand to cancel the entire contribution of CHF 4.9 million to the Swiss Landscape Fund also failed to gain a majority. The Council also rejected a reduction in funding for the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energies.
