The Swiss National Council's audit committee (GPK-N) has concluded that the oversight of the billions of Swiss francs in Kurzarbeit compensation paid to businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic was inadequate. The committee found that the Kurzarbeit scheme was an effective tool in the crisis, but that stronger oversight was needed. They recommended that the government ensure that ongoing checks into the payments are carried out within the prescribed timeframes, in order to ensure that any funds paid out in error can be recovered. The committee also issued seven recommendations to the Federal Council, who must respond by the beginning of March.
