President Amherd in Mongolia – a first for Switzerland

For the first time, a Swiss President has traveled to Mongolia. On Friday, President Viola Amherd and Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh signed a joint declaration on future cooperation.
Amherd traveled to the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator to mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries. This was announced by Amherd's Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) on Friday.
A declaration of intent was also signed with the aim of strengthening democratic institutions in Mongolia. According to the communiqué, the successes achieved were also discussed at the meeting.
The commitment of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Mongolia will end after 20 years in this form, the DDPS wrote. Switzerland will continue some of its activities from its embassy in Beijing.
The security situation in East Asia and Europe was also discussed. According to the press release, Amherd explained Switzerland's commitment to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
