Werner Salzmann (SVP) is currently in the lead in the Swiss Canton of Bern's Council of States election, with 76,338 votes after seven of ten administrative districts have been counted. This could change, however, once the cities of Bern and Biel, which are dominated by the red-green parties, are counted. A second round of voting is expected on November 19th due to the large number of candidates. Following Salzmann are SP National Councilor Flavia Wasserfallen with 48,558 votes and Nidau FDP Mayor Sandra Hess with 42,168 votes. GLP President Jürg Grossen is in fourth place with 28,976 votes, overtaking the popular former government councillor Bernhard Pulver (Green) who has 27,127 votes. Lorenz Hess (Mitte) and EVP National Councilor Marc Jost follow with 14,356 and 14,326 votes respectively. The remaining candidates are unlikely to be successful. The voter turnout is currently 47.4%.
