The Evangelical Reformed Church of Switzerland (EKS) commemorates the victims and sufferers of the Middle East conflict. The commemoration is for all those affected, regardless of origin or religion.

The unspeakable suffering on both sides is an urgent reminder of the need for peace and justice in this region, the EHL announced on Sunday. This conflict must not threaten the common consensus to stand up against violence and for human rights and to help those who need help.

The church stands in solidarity with all those suffering, the communiqué continued. These are people and not representatives of nations or political ideologies. The EHL praised the work of the aid organization of the Swiss Protestant Reformed Church, which is working on the ground to support Palestinian refugees and protect human rights. The Protestant partner churches are also places of hope in the midst of horror.

Commemorative events were planned for Sunday evening in Bern and Geneva by the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities to mark the anniversary of the Hamas massacre in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
