Renewable energies still a long way from electricity production target

Electricity production from renewable energies increased again last year. However, it is still a long way from the target set in the Energy Act for 2035.
In 2022, 10.4 percent of electricity in Switzerland was generated from renewable energies. This is according to the fifth monitoring report on energy supply, as announced by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) on Tuesday. In absolute figures, production amounted to 6019 gigawatt hours - 1039 gigawatt hours more than in the previous year.
According to the current Energy Act, almost double this amount is to be achieved by 2035: 11,400 gigawatt hours. However, higher targets are to come into force on January 1, 2025 with the so-called blanket decree - the Federal Act on a Secure Electricity Supply with Renewable Energies. The blanket decree defines the production of 35,000 gigawatt hours from renewable energies as the target value for 2035. According to the SFOE, "further efforts" are therefore needed to achieve the targets.
