The Swiss government has implemented a new system of observation and reporting for organ transplants in order to increase safety. This system, known as the Vigilance System, is required by European medical product regulations and requires the documentation of all transplants as well as the reporting of any serious incidents or adverse reactions. Additionally, the revision of the law creates the formal legal basis for the operation of databases, the processing of sensitive personal data, and the core elements of the Cross-Living Donor Program. This program allows for donated kidneys to be allocated to compatible recipients when a direct living donation is not possible due to incompatibility. Overall, these measures are intended to ensure the safety of organ transplants in Switzerland.
