The online magazine "Republik" wants to practically triple the number of subscriptions to 100,000 members within five years. The magazine "Republik" is currently too strongly focused on Zurich, said Chairman of the Board of Directors Michel Huissoud in an interview with Tamedia published on Friday. There are also other cantons. In addition to Switzerland, southern Germany could also be a market.

Most recently, "Republik" had targeted a membership of 33,000 people. However, the number of subscribers fell. Huissoud said that he now wanted to look into the reasons for this. He wants to increase the numbers "with conviction - and by showing that the "Republik" is necessary". He has not yet had time to work out a strategy.

Huissoud took over as Chairman of the Board of Directors in August of this year. "I thought I was taking on the post to solve the financial problems of the "Republic"," said the former Director of the Swiss Federal Audit Office. Shortly after he took office, however, the magazine was confronted with allegations of abuse. Now that an investigation has been completed, the case is closed for him.

There were also operational changes at the magazine. Oliver Fuchs stepped down as editor-in-chief at the beginning of 2023. Bettina Hamilton-Irvine and Daniel Binswanger took over on an interim basis. After Hamilton-Irvine, Binswanger is now also the definitive co-editor-in-chief of the magazine. This was announced by the "Republik" in a press release on Friday.
