The line between Visp and Zermatt remained closed early Saturday morning due to the risk of flooding. There were no alternative transport options, as announced by the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway on the online platform X.
The railroad company suspended rail services between Visp and Zermatt as early as midday on Friday. Both the road and the railroad line to Zermatt were closed due to the risk of flooding.
Earlier on Friday evening, the municipality of Zermatt called on the population to stay indoors. Those living near streams should seek higher floors. Zermatt's mayor Romy Biner-Hauser said on Swiss radio and television SRF's Tagesschau that vacation guests were safe. Those who are unable to arrive or depart will be given accommodation.
