Russian woman has walrus tusk at Berlin airport

Customs officials at Berlin Brandenburg Airport have confiscated the decorated tusk of a protected species of walrus. A 24-year-old Russian woman had the 60-centimetre-long and almost two-kilogram tooth in her suitcase, as the main customs office in Potsdam announced on Thursday. It is said to be a gift from the woman's father.
According to reports, the walrus tooth was wrapped in a bed sheet and was discovered on Saturday during an X-ray baggage check on a flight from Georgia. After the woman had passed through the exit for undeclared goods, customs intervened.
The walrus is a "specially protected species" and special regulations must therefore be observed when importing it. According to customs, the traveler now faces a fine of around 9400 Swiss francs.
