A 46-year-old Swiss patient, who was paralyzed in his arms after a fall, is the first to test a brain implant coupled with a spinal implant to regain control of his paralyzed arms. The same technology had previously enabled a paraplegic to control his legs with his thoughts, according to a report published in May in the scientific journal Nature. In August, the medical team implanted the implants in the patient. So far, everything is satisfactory, according to the attending physician Jocelyne Bloch from the Lausanne University Hospital Chuv. The patient is currently in the training phase. Results of the study, in which two more patients are to participate, are not expected for some time.
