Seven injured after accident during carnival parade in Schwellbrunn AR

There was a serious accident between two parade vehicles at the carnival parade in Schwellbrunn AR on Sunday afternoon. According to the police, seven people were injured, two of them seriously. The casualties were taken to hospital.
The rear-end collision between the two cars occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Sunday in the center of the village. The media spokesman for the Appenzell Ausserrhoden cantonal police, Anton Sonderegger, confirmed a corresponding report from "20 Minuten" on request. The exact causes of the accident are still being investigated.
According to police reports on Sunday evening, the carnival procession moved at walking pace from Im Rank via Egg towards the village. There was a rear-end collision between two vehicles near Egg. A converted bus collided with a motorized agricultural tractor with a trailer. People fell from the motorized axle and others were trapped under the bus.
The Schwellbrunn and Herisau fire departments freed the trapped people from their predicament. The rescue service, which was deployed in large numbers, was on the scene with a rescue helicopter and 4 ambulances. Two people suffered serious injuries and five people sustained minor injuries
Sonderegger explained that there were no children among the injured. The parade was canceled after the accident and the whole village was deeply affected by the accident. A care team is on site.
