Fifa delegates will vote on Friday on a revision of the statutes that would allow the headquarters to move out of Zurich. In an interview with Keystone-SDA, Dominique Blanc, President of the Swiss Football Association (SFA), said that he would naturally like the headquarters to remain in Switzerland.

Dominique Blanc, how did you experience the discussions about the possible revision of the statutes and the possible departure of FIFA from Zurich?

Blanc: "With great interest and commitment. However, I wasn't asked about it very often. Outside of the associations from Central Europe, there is little interest in this agenda item."

What is the position of the SFA?

Blanc: "We have a very good working relationship with Fifa and naturally want the headquarters to remain in Switzerland. And we were also somewhat surprised that the option of moving away is being considered. However, this issue is not about footballing interests, it's about politics. We at the SFA don't know what discussions have taken place between FIFA and the authorities."

How will you vote?

Blanc: "We are still discussing this, but we will abstain or vote against. We want to explain this position in detail to FIFA and the associations closest to us. Because we don't want to jeopardize good relations."

What impact would the departure of FIFA have in your view?

Blanc: "The move would have no direct impact on our association. Nevertheless, we would very much regret it. FIFA treats all members equally, but the practical short distances to the FIFA (Zurich) and Uefa (Nyon) institutions are an advantage for us. They enable a very close exchange. Switzerland enjoys a good reputation as a home for international associations. If Fifa were to move away, this would damage its reputation. And the risk of a domino effect should not be underestimated. In addition, the headquarters in Zurich with 500 jobs also brings many economic advantages, such as considerable added value for our country through the income from World Cups and other major events. However, moving away would also be a shame for FIFA. It has excellent infrastructural, political and legal conditions in Switzerland."

What voting result do you expect?

Blanc: "I can't say that. As I said, the possibility of FIFA leaving Switzerland is not a big issue, except for the European associations. But that should also be proof that they are satisfied with the current situation."
