A speed flyer had a fatal accident on Tuesday afternoon on the Männlichen in the Bernese Oberland. The cause of the accident is still unclear, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Wednesday.
The speed flyer crashed during a flight from Männlichen to Wengen, the police reported. During a search flight, the emergency services were able to locate and recover the lifeless person in the Eggigräben area above Wengen.
The victim of the accident is a 42-year-old Australian citizen. The Bern cantonal police have started an investigation into the accident.
In speed flying, athletes fly with very small wings. This allows them to reach significantly higher speeds than with normal paragliders. Speedflying also often combines flying with skiing.
