The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SRG will appoint the successor to Director General Gilles Marchand in around a week's time. The extraordinary meeting of delegates has been scheduled for Saturday, May 25 in Bern.

SRG spokesperson Edi Estermann told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday that the Board of Directors will also meet first on the same morning. He was confirming a report from CH Media. SRG will then provide information.

The selection of the candidates will only be presented to the delegates on Saturday with a table presentation. This is customary for a personnel matter of this kind. Estermann did not say any more.

In the media, SRF Head of Culture Susanne Wille and SRG Executive Board member Bakel Walden are mentioned as the most promising candidates. A co-leadership with both would also be possible. On Thursday, the "NZZ" also brought CH Media editor-in-chief Patrik Müller into play. However, he had stated that he wanted to remain at their publishing house, CH Media wrote.

SRG Director General Marchand, who has been in office since 2017, announced in mid-January that he would be taking early retirement by the beginning of 2025 at the latest. The media company wants to prepare itself for the media policy discussions of the coming years with a new top management team. In addition to the halving initiative, these include the negotiations on new concessions in 2027 and their decision by 2028.
