The rail vehicle manufacturer Stadler has received an order from the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway (MGBahn). The contract covers the construction of 11 new meter-gauge locomotives.
The order volume amounts to around CHF 100 million, as the companies jointly announced on Friday.
The hybrid locomotives have four axles with single-axle drive and are built in Bussnang. They can be operated on the construction sites of both railroads both via the overhead line and with diesel engines.
At RhB, eight vehicles are replacing five older locomotives. The three additional locomotives are intended to shorten the intervention time in the event of disruptions.
The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway is in turn replacing three older service locomotives. The new Stadler locomotives will be used to clear snow from the Oberalp Pass, among other things.
