“Successful” ATM burglar in Dielsdorf ZH in court

A 50-year-old ATM burglar will stand trial in Dielsdorf ZH on Friday. He stole over 1.2 million francs in four cantons. The Kosovar is to spend four years behind bars. He was only caught years after the first burglary.
During the robberies, the 50-year-old was on the move with various accomplices in Steinmaur ZH, Murten and Villars-sur-Glâne FR, Thun, Heimberg BE and Reinach BL. One of the accomplices will also stand trial on Friday.
According to the indictment, the main accused stole 455,285 francs when he broke into the post office in Steinmaur in 2015. He or an accomplice also used a fire extinguisher to damage stamps worth almost 25,000 francs, lottery tickets and highway toll stickers. Allegedly to cover their tracks.
High property damage caused
The burglars were never gentle. In Steinmaur, they broke a hole in the wall to get into the post office and broke open a safe. In Heimberg and Thun, they broke into ATMs. In Reinach, where they stole 407,560 francs and 74,890 euros, they smashed through a plaster wall to get behind the ATM.
In addition to the large haul, the suspects also caused property damage totaling 275,357 francs. Even where they were unsuccessful, as in Villars-sur-Glâne, the property damage amounted to over 66,000 francs.
Burglaries spread over eight years
The burglaries took place between 2015 and 2022, the last one in Reinach. The main offender has been behind bars since November 2022. According to the application, he is to remain there for four years and then leave Switzerland. An expulsion order of 10 years has been requested.
For the co-accused accomplice, who was only involved in Reinach and Murten, a prison sentence of 26 months is demanded. The Kosovar is to be expelled from the country for six years.
Both proceedings are abbreviated. The accused therefore confess and agree to the sentence. If there is no surprise, the court passes sentence.
