As announced, the weekend started with summery weather: On Saturday, the summer mark of 25 degrees was broken in parts of Switzerland by midday, with April records being set in several places.
According to Meteonews, the previous temperature record was exceeded by 0.8 degrees in Chur GR, by 0.3 degrees in Fahy JU, by 0.5 degrees in Adelboden BE and by 0.9 degrees on the Weissfluhjoch. Specifically, 28.5 degrees were measured in Chur at 4.40 pm, 25.6 degrees in Fahy JU, 22.4 degrees in Adelboden and 8.9 degrees on the Weissfluhjoch.
In the lowlands, the summer mark of 25 degrees was broken in some places as early as midday. By late afternoon, some places even saw temperatures of just under 30 degrees. According to Meteonews, 28.8 degrees were reached in Basel-Binningen, 27.7 degrees in Delsberg JU and 27.3 degrees in Sion VS.
The exceptionally warm subtropical air flowing over Switzerland was responsible for the high temperatures, MeteoSwiss wrote. In addition to summer temperatures, this current is also bringing Saharan dust with it. According to Metonews, Sunday is likely to see similar or even slightly higher temperatures and Monday is also expected to be "exceptionally warm" once again.
