The supply of oral opioids has stabilized in Switzerland. In addition, stocks in the compulsory stocks have been replenished. The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research is therefore suspending the release of the corresponding compulsory stocks from August 1.
It brought this ordinance into force on March 15, 2022 in order to counteract a shortage of orally administered opioids, as announced by the Federal Office for National Economic Supply (FONES) on Monday. Patients with long-lasting moderate to severe pain were affected by the sometimes severe supply shortage.
The shortage of opioids may have been resolved, but the shortage of other medicines continues. According to BWL, these include vital groups of active ingredients such as antibiotics and vaccines.
