For a majority of Swiss people, health insurance premiums should be dependent on income. This is the result of a representative survey conducted by the Sotomo research institute among 6066 voters in German- and French-speaking Switzerland.
According to the survey results published by "Blick" on Saturday, 57% of respondents would like to see the current per capita premium abolished. The research institute Sotomo also conducted the survey entitled "This is how Switzerland thinks" on behalf of the newspaper.
According to the survey, it is not only left-wing and green voters who think that high earners should pay higher health insurance premiums. 55% of centrist voters also say yes or rather yes to this idea. Among GLP voters, the figure is 54%.
SVP sympathizers also in favour
51 percent of SVP sympathizers also said yes or rather yes to the question of whether health insurance premiums should be linked to income.
Reductions in health insurance premiums were also mentioned first by the survey participants when asked to name possible measures to ease the burden on families. Sixty-six percent of respondents were in favor of reduced premiums. Measures to create affordable housing came in second place.
There is also a clear opinion among respondents as to who is struggling to make ends meet in Switzerland today, pensioners or families. According to 56%, it is "more likely to be families" or "clearly families".
Political scientist Sarah Bütikofer from Sotomo is quoted by "Blick" as saying that healthcare costs really are a construction site for which politicians need to find "real and sustainable solutions".
