A strike by Italian airport employees led to numerous restrictions in air traffic on Friday. This also affected the Swiss airline Swiss, which canceled twelve flights as a result.
Around 900 passengers are affected by the cancellations, as Swiss media spokesman Michael Pelzer announced at the request of Keystone-SDA. There will be cancellations at the destinations Milan, Florence, Venice and Bologna. However, half of the Swiss flights to these destinations can be operated as planned. Other Swiss destinations in Italy could be served as planned, albeit with possible delays.
Affected passengers had been contacted by Swiss in advance. All additional costs for accommodation or meals caused by the strike would be covered by Swiss. The capacity for outbound and return flights to Venice on Friday evening will also be increased by a larger aircraft, Pelzer added.
Delays and flight cancellations occurred at Italian airports due to the nationwide 24-hour strike by unionized airport employees. The unions are demanding higher wages and better working conditions.
