In the first half of 2023, Swiss cinemas saw a significant increase in ticket sales compared to the same period in the previous year. The total number of tickets sold was 5.7 million, a 25% increase. This was still 13% lower than the first half of 2019, before the pandemic. Despite a slight decrease in the number of films shown (221 compared to 238 in the previous year), the Swiss film industry saw a huge increase in ticket sales, with 400,000 tickets sold, more than double the previous year. This was mainly due to the release of several films that attracted a wide audience. This shows that the public is returning to cinemas since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
