Swiss companies sign European AI pact

Over a hundred companies have signed the EU pact for artificial intelligence. Swiss companies have also voluntarily committed to the regulations.
The pact is based on the voluntary commitment of companies to apply the principles of the law on artificial intelligence (AI) even before it comes into force, as the European Commission announced on Wednesday. The list of signatory companies published by the EU authority included the Vaud-based manufacturer of computer accessories Logitech and the Zurich-based personnel service provider Adecco.
The pact calls on companies to commit to at least three measures that are in line with the AI Act. An internal company strategy must be developed to promote the introduction of AI in the organization and work towards future compliance with the law.
Furthermore, AI systems that would be classified as "high-risk" under the new law would have to be identified, according to the statement. The third measure is to promote employees' AI knowledge and awareness of this topic.
Switzerland looks to European AI law
The European AI Act came into force on August 1. The EU member states now have two years to introduce the regulations into national law. Most of the points in the law must be implemented by summer 2026.
There is currently no law in Switzerland that specifically regulates AI. However, the Federal Council has commissioned an overview of possible regulatory approaches for AI. This should be available by the end of 2024 and take European regulation into account. The Federal Council intends to issue a specific mandate for an AI regulation proposal in 2025.
