Switzerland will be represented at two festivals in France and one in Italy during July with a total of 16 theater and dance productions. Switzerland is thus shaping the international festival summer, Pro Helvetia wrote in a press release on Thursday.

The Swiss presence in the south of France, at the Cratère Surface theater festival in Alès and at the Festival d'Avignon, is therefore exceptional.

The Cratère Surface is an international festival for street art in public spaces; it will take place for the 25th time from July 4 to 6. Switzerland is represented as guest of honor with seven productions from German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland. At the anniversary edition, these productions will be included in the special Panorama Création program. The aim is to attract international attention to the Swiss contemporary theater and dance scene.

Switzerland will be represented at the Festival d'Avignon from July 6 to 18 with five productions. These are intended for the Selection Suisse en Avignon (SCH). This platform is part of the renowned festival's off-program. The SCH was launched in 2016 with the aim of presenting the productions to an audience of professionals so that the companies from Switzerland can then tour internationally with their pieces over a longer period of time.

Swiss groups will be performing four pieces at the third international festival in the southern Italian town of Santarcangelo from July 6 to 15. This festival is dedicated to avant-garde work in the fields of theater, dance and performance. According to Pro Helvetia, Switzerland's focus here is primarily on promoting young talent.
