The Association of Swiss Electricity Companies (VSE) welcomes the Swiss electorate's vote in favor of the energy decree. With their approval, the electorate is "unequivocally demanding more clean Swiss electricity", the association wrote in a press release on Sunday.

The VSE also sees "a clear commitment to the conversion of our energy system" and writes of a "clear mandate to implement the many projects for the expansion of renewable electricity production now".

Thanks to the high level of approval, numerous levers could now be set in motion to strengthen Switzerland's security of supply and make its energy supply less dependent on foreign countries.

The "excellent cross-party cooperation" in the Alliance for a Secure Electricity Supply has paid off, the association continues. This alliance brought together the supporters of the energy market decree; the VSE is a member.

However, the VSE goes on to say that the course has not yet been set for Switzerland's security of supply. Projects for the expansion of renewable energies should not only be easier to approve and implement, but also faster.

The acceleration decree, which is being discussed in parliament, is an indispensable addition to the Electricity Act and must come into force soon so that the expansion targets set out in the Electricity Act can be achieved on time.
