The Swiss participants in the World Synod of the Roman Catholic Church in Rome are "very satisfied" with the final document. The Synod had determined that it was important to include women. Further consideration is needed for their access to the office of deacon.

In a statement issued by the Swiss Bishops' Conference on Sunday, Bishop Felix Gmür expressed his delight that the doors for the diaconate of women remain open. "This is a sign of hope. Step by step, we will continue our commitment with patience and perseverance," the bishop wrote.

The topic of "women in the church" has shaped many discussions in Rome with its discernment processes. The assembly emphasized that women continue to encounter obstacles as their charisms are not fully recognized. However, it should be normal for women to take up leadership positions.

According to the Bishops' Conference, a "healthy decentralization of the church" was also intensively discussed.
