A few days after his arrest in Switzerland, the suspect in the case of the death of a 77-year-old man from Freiburg has been extradited to Germany. He was remanded in custody, the police and public prosecutor's office in Fribourg announced on Friday.

The 21-year-old was handed over to the German authorities on Thursday. He is alleged to have killed the 77-year-old man with a knife in mid-July.

On July 14, the pensioner was found dead by a relative in his house in the Wiehre district. He had been fatally wounded with a knife. Among other things, jewelry and electronic devices are said to have been stolen from the house.

A special commission began its work. Traces were collected on the dead man's property and in the adjacent woodland and meadows. The investigation and evaluation of the evidence led to a strong suspicion against the 21-year-old.

Shortly after the crime, there was evidence of a suspicious man. He rummaged through a rucksack in a bush. A witness observed this and filmed it.

When the police arrived, the suspect was no longer there, it was said at the time. However, the officers had found objects in the bushes that had come from the house of the deceased.

The public prosecutor's office in Fribourg applied to the district court for a national and European arrest warrant. Last Monday, investigators finally announced the arrest of the 21-year-old in Bern, Switzerland.
