Table barbecues caused carbon monoxide poisoning in Giswil OW

Table barbecues were responsible for the carbon monoxide poisoning in Giswil OW last Saturday. The 17 hospitalized people have since been discharged from hospital care.
An investigation by the Zurich Forensic Institute has shown that the coal-fired table grills, known as Tatar hats, were presumably responsible for the high carbon monoxide levels in the cathedral tent, the Obwalden public prosecutor's office announced on Thursday. However, investigations are continuing.
On the evening of December 7, several people lost consciousness or complained of feeling unwell during a meal in Giswil, as the police reported at the time. The 35 people present then went out into the fresh air. 26 people suffered carbon monoxide poisoning that evening. 17 of them had to be taken to hospital.
