In future, the tariff partners instead of the Department of Home Affairs will determine how much health insurance companies pay for laboratory analyses. The Federal Council adopted the corresponding dispatch to Parliament on Wednesday.
With the planned amendment to the law, the state government is implementing a mandate from parliament, as it announced. In 2018, it had referred a corresponding motion from the Social and Health Committee of the Council of States (SGK-S).
The supporters of the motion argued that such negotiations would enable innovative analyses to be included in the relevant list more quickly. This would help to slow down the rise in healthcare costs.
At the time, the Federal Council doubted that the change would result in tariffs being adjusted more quickly in future. There was a threat of blockades in the tariff negotiations.
These doubts were also shared by the majority of participants in the consultation process, the Federal Council confirmed in Wednesday's communiqué. They also feared additional work for the cantons and tariff partners and higher costs as a result.
