Over the past five days, tens of thousands of visitors have taken part in around 750 events and nature experiences at the Festival of Nature. The main theme of the festival, which was organized for the eighth time, was biodiversity in urban areas.
At numerous events, the focus was on concrete action for more nature in urban areas. According to a statement from the organizers on Sunday, events with instructions on how to promote biodiversity were well attended. These included, for example, designing biodiversity-friendly gardens and balconies or workshops on building insect hotels, which were particularly popular with children and young people.
According to the press release, around half of Switzerland's habitats and a third of its species are threatened. The destruction, overuse and pollution of natural habitats are the main causes of the decline. In addition, climate change and the displacement of native species by invasive species are also affecting native animals and plants.
