The Federal Council Rejects Export Request for Tanks to Ukraine

The Swiss Federal Council has rejected a request to repair and re-export 96 Leopard 1 AS tanks currently stored in Italy to Ukraine. The Council cited the existing law, particularly the War Material Act, as the reason for the rejection, stating that the sale would be in contradiction to the law and would require an adjustment of the country's neutrality policy. The request for the trade of the tanks came from the Swiss armaments company Ruag. The Council prioritised the aspects of Switzerland's neutrality policy and its reliability as a rule of law in its decision.
