The Swiss government has released its mandatory vaccine stockpiles due to a shortage of various recommended vaccines in the Swiss Immunization Plan. These include the four-in-one vaccine for the booster immunization of children between four and seven years old against diphtheria, whooping cough, polio and tetanus, as well as vaccines against meningitis and chickenpox. The reasons for the shortage are varied, with the affected vaccines being in high demand worldwide and not available in sufficient quantities. The release of the mandatory stockpiles is intended to improve the supply of vaccines in the short term. The economic state supply expects a relaxation of the situation in the spring of 2024. The vaccination recommendations of the Federal Office of Public Health and the Swiss Commission for Vaccination remain in place, and will be adjusted if the demand cannot be met.
