SRF Meteorologist Thomas Bucheli apologized on television Wednesday for inaccurate temperature forecasts. He attributed the higher temperatures for coastal areas of the Mediterranean in recent weeks to technical errors. Bucheli denied accusations that the public broadcaster was predicting higher temperatures to fuel the climate debate. He stated that he and his team were interested in accurate forecasts. The southern part of Europe had been hit by a heatwave in recent weeks, with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees in many places. SRF Meteo's automated weather forecasts on its website and app for foreign locations were sometimes too high. SRF Meteo offers weather forecasts for around three million foreign locations through a complex algorithm based on models. During the recent heatwave in the Mediterranean, the temperatures for coastal regions were higher than they actually were. Bucheli apologized for the error and stated that they were working to correct it. The hand-made forecasts broadcasted on radio and TV were not affected, nor were the automated data for Swiss locations.nnnnnn
