The mood in the household appliance sector continues to brighten

The mood in the Swiss household appliance industry improved in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter. More manufacturers are expecting a positive earnings trend for the final quarter than in the previous quarter.
In the third quarter, the household appliance industry was set for an economic upturn that had not been expected in the previous forecast, wrote the Swiss Association of Household and Commercial Appliances (FEA) on Monday.
According to the quarterly survey, only 4% of companies described their earnings situation as poor. In the previous quarter, the figure was 15 percent. Just under two thirds rated it as satisfactory (VQ 52%) and just under a third as good.
Good employment situation
According to the FEA, the employment situation has developed positively: This is now described as good by more than half of the companies, after only a third had assessed it as such in the second quarter. 44% described it as satisfactory, compared to 63% in the previous quarter, and only 4% as poor.
Improvements were also seen in orders on hand and incoming orders: At 36% (VQ 22%) and 32% (26%), the proportion of respondents who described these two categories as good has risen significantly. Only 8% rated these points as poor.
And the signs for the final quarter of 2024 are positive: at 32%, significantly more respondents expect the earnings situation to improve, compared to 19% in the previous quarter. In terms of incoming orders, 44% expect an increase (26% QoQ) and only 8% a decrease (15%).
