The Swiss labor market remains in good condition. The number of employed people increased by 2.9% in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 5.303 million. The number of employed men increased by 2.6%, while that of employed women increased by 3.2%. This is according to the Swiss Labour Force Survey (SAKE) released by the Federal Statistical Office on Thursday. In full-time equivalents (VZÄ), the increase was 2.6%, with men increasing by 2.1% and women by 3.3%. Seasonally adjusted, compared to the start of the quarter in 2023, both the number of employed people and the number of full-time equivalents increased by 0.9% and 0.5%, respectively. The unemployment rate in the second quarter fell to 3.7%, compared to 4.1% in the same period of the previous year. This means that, according to the definition of the International Labour Organization (ILO), there were 186,000 unemployed people in Switzerland, 15,000 fewer than a year ago. The ILO unemployment rate is therefore significantly higher than the unemployment rate according to the definition of the Seco, which only counts the registered unemployed people. The Seco also does not publish quarterly but monthly values. In July, the unemployment rate remained at a low 1.9%, again below the 2% mark.nnnnnnnnnn
