The Swiss Storytelling Night is planning around 750 events throughout Switzerland for November 8 - under the motto "Dream Worlds".
Dreams can be big or small, sweet or scary. Fantasy stories, surreal picture book worlds or very personal dream journeys would offer "many starting points for a shared experience of dream worlds at the Swiss Storytelling Night", the organizers wrote in a press release on Friday.
Alice in Wonderland and Hans-guck-in-die-Luft, for example, tell their young and old readers about "their realistic dreams of the future, terrifying nightmares, fantastic utopias and childish daydreams".
The idea behind the storytelling night has been to promote reading since 1990. The event takes place under a different motto every year. Children, young people and adults come together for one evening until late at night on the second Friday in November to tell and read stories on the theme of the motto. The venues are schools, libraries, youth clubs and other cultural institutions.
The Swiss Storytelling Night is coordinated annually by the Swiss Institute for Children's and Youth Media (SIKJM), Bibliomedia Switzerland and Unicef Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
